Year 9 Creative Media Animation – Term 04

Task 4: e-pub, commentary and poster self-reflection and evaluation:

I am very satisfied with my finial results of my poster and I really enjoyed making it. I am also very satisfied with my iBook. The I-book took less time then I thought it would. It was a lot easier then I thought it would be. If I were to do the iBook again I would add more detail to all my pages and change the layout of my pages.

My iBook did not turn out how I thought it would. I wasn’t to sure on how the finished product would look when we started this task because I had never done anything like it. My iBook does not look like an ordinary book. It has pictures in the background and lots of different colures throughout the whole iBook. My iBook and poster clearly depicts the style of our animation. This is because the iBook, poster and animation all make use of lots of colures. In the iBook the background pictures are pictures of the particular scene is about and the poster has an eye with a flower in it pupil as its background, this depicts the style of the animation because in the first scene of the animation there was the same picture but it was animated. I didn’t have any difficulty’s while doing this task the only trouble I ran into was forgetting my USB stick with the iBook on hand in day. This was fine as Mr. Powell let me hand it in the next day during morning tea The make my poster I had to get two pictures off the internet then I used Photoshop to blend the two together to get the picture I wanted. After that I just used word to add writing.

Steps I used to plan and develop our project:

1.    Put all the scenes in order

2.    Make dot points for each scene

3.    Do backgrounds for all the pages

4.    Elaborate on dot points for all the scenes

5.    Find pictures for my poster

6.    Use Photoshop to make poster background

7.    Finnish poster

8.    Fix up any last touches

I didn’t encounter any time-management issues during the creative process except on the day we had to hand in the assignment I forgot my USB stick. Other the then that I made sure I had my USB stick everyday so I could get the iBook done without any last minute stress.

Overall I really like this task and think it was a good assignment for our class to do and I wouldn’t mind doing something like this again.

Factory film

The absence of colours and windows in a factory scenery made me feel sad and dull, which helps the producer capture the message it think she was trying to get across. This film made me feel like we waste too much time working and not enough time enjoying life.

In my opinion the most striking element of the film was the amount of I-stock being used and how dull the film set was. The most interesting elements of this film were how all the people are doing the work. In today’s society new gadgets, machines and robots are often used in these types of working environments. In this film the hard work is done by hand. It even shows a giant hand doing actions of picking up and dropping things, I also find it interesting that the hand is actually not picking anything up. This helps the producer to get her point across, this is because the actions that the hand is doing is all for nothing. So in a way it’s saying that maybe we are working for nothing as well and we should and stop and enjoy life. Another interesting point in this film is the absence of windows, which make to film set dull and grey.

I think that there is two meanings too this film. The first meaning is that we all work too much in todays society and sometimes it can be all for nothing and that we should spend less time working and more time having fun. My second theory is that the producer thinks she does a lot of work on her own with not much help. The dullness in the film shows that she isn’t very happy about this.

My overall impression of this film and that she use’s very good techniques and it is very good in capturing the mood she wants to audience to get from it. I think that she has got the meaning of the film across very well and smoothly, although some of the parts in this film I don’t get but maybe the director did that because she didn’t want to audience to and it was a secret to her.

The sounds played an important part in this film. Use of factory noises in the background helped to make the movie set sound boring and unenjoyable. The background sounds played a big part on the mood of the film, they made me feel bored, sad and they made think about why should have to spend our life in places like that if we live in such a beautiful world.

This animator’s technique in this film is simple and smooth. She makes good used of I-stock and photo-shop throughout the clip and her storyboard comes across very well and gives you many ideas on what is trying to be put across to you.

This animation would have been very well planed. Everything in this clip has a meaning to it; from the use of no windows to the black and white scenery everything has been planed to make you get the impression that this is a very sad and boring working space. She has also used objects like ands and milkshakes to get you thinking about what is the meaning behind the film.

almost done!

The semester that we have been working on our animations is now coming to an end with only a week left to finish our animations. I am confident that i will have it all finished by the due date with it all put together as one with all the sound needed.

I-stock

Today i used i-stock to add to my octopus scene. In the i stock i took pictures of my hand doing a flicking moment, this will later be added to the animation of the octopus so it will look like my hand is flicking the octopus up into the air. this will then go on the the next scene of the octopus turning into a bird.

This is my first scene that i did. it is a man turning into an octopus. to do this i just zoomed in on the face and then changed the shape of the face into an octopus with each different frame.

This animation is also from the start of last term. in this animation we made a man look like he was walking across the scene.

This animation is from the start of the term when Mr Powell taught us how to make a ball look like it is bouncing. To do this me had to make the bouncing get smaller and smaller each time it hit the ground. When the ball hit the ground i had to overemphasize the ball squishing flat and getting longer as it bounced.

Today i finished my latest scene. this scene is the start of our animation where an eye opens and the dream begins. for this scene i and to use i stock to take pictures to create an affect that it was being videoed. after this i had to transport it to the desktop of the computer and transfer all 100 images one by one into animation-ish and trace them with black lines. When lily gets her memory stick back i will then colour in the flower in the center of the eye

What i have done so far.

So far i have used I-stoke motion to take lots of photos of my hand turning the on the drawing pad. After that i continued using stoke motion to take pictures of my hand opening an eye. Opening that eye was like the eye was like starting the animation (opening your eyes to a different world). After that i transferred the stoke motion into animation-ish to trace the eye scene. i have started my scene on making a human turn into an octopus, to do this i have to zoom in on the humans head and then turn it into an octopus. i have made another mistake my not bringing my USB in on your last lesson. i had to save my work in Lily's USB  and today she is not here so i have nothing to work on. lesson learned is do NOT! forget your USB when you are taking a creative media class.

after a few weeks lily, Brooke and i have started our animation. first we had to decide what we were going to make it on, then we had to make our story board before we started. the title of our work is called 'Life Cycle' it shows the life cycles in everyday life and he things that happen in life and how things grow. for this we are using I-stoke and animation-ish to draw a picture on paper and it comes to life and tells a story. we have made a few mistakes already by taking pictures with rubber bits on the page. we then had to take new photos wasting time. another mistake we have made is trying to turn a flower with our hand that is in the middle of an eye. we did not take the photos of my hand spinning the flower while we were doing it so it didn't work out.

animation ideas

For our animation lily, brook and I though of many ideas for our story line some of these were:
- being in a Mario game world.
- going around the world.
- getting sucked into an iPod, then being in a music video.
- walking around and moving art is all over that walls showing how they are feeling.
- waking on a bed (looks like you are walking down a street)
- keyboard on a mac computer come to life and tells a story.
- drawing things on a page and they come to life.
out of these ideas we have considered two of them and we are still deciding what one we we are going to make. these two ideas are the keyboard on a mac computer comes to life and tells a story and drawing things on a page and they come to life. 

making a ball bounce

In creative media term 2 and 3 we are creating a animation. In our first lesson we learned how to make a ball bounce. Some of this things we had to do was make the ball squish down flat when it hit the ground and the fly up and moved into a different shape. Although this doesn't really happen when you bounce a ball in real life it created the effect of it.

Avatar reflection/evaluation

 For our avatar assignment we had to photo-shop pictures of our self or a friend to make the photo look like how we see them by adding in emotions and personality’s of what we think most describes them. We had to edit one photo with two personalities or two photos in one personality in each of them

Some of the technique’s our teacher taught us was things like:

- Rubbing out and on layers 

- How to put two pictures together

- Softening the strength of a layer so it would blend in better

- Making masks

- Changing the colour of eyes, hair, lips etc.

 And many other things but these are just some of the basics. It took a while to get used to all the different tools but I eventually got the hang of it.

I decided to use my friend Lily as my model for my assignment because I know her very well and I also decided I was going to do one photo with two emotions. At first I was going to have Lily on a beach with a surf board in her arm and as a second emotion to be funny and crazy looking but I changed my mind and ended up making Lily look like a angel/devil and the beach idea.

For my beach idea I had Lily standing on a beach holding a surfboard this is because Lily is from Byron bay where it is a very beachy culture and Lily loves the beach. I made many mistakes during the editing one of these and I was forgetting to save my work. Many times I had exited out of my project without saving it and I lost lots of my work, like when I spent a whole lesson turning Lily into a angel but I forgot to save it and lost it all. I had to redo it all in prep and in our next lesson. I made other mistakes like putting layers on that didn’t look quite right so I had to rub and un-rub parts out that I did or didn’t need.

My second emotion I turned lily into an angel/devil. This was because Lily comes across as a quite shy girl so that is where the angel half came from but she is actually quite the opposite, a loud, crazy and cheeky girl so I made her other half a devil. During the assignment I made many mistakes on this emotion. It took many dresses to find one that suited the angel of her body and tunic. This resulted in many different dresses being put on the image but eventually I found one, and still had to edit the dress to cover her tunic. Another mistake I made was forgetting to save my work I had to redo a lot of what I had already done because I didn’t save it to my memory stick or creative media folder. 

From this assignment I learnt how to photo-shop images and learn lots of techniques on photo shop. I also learnt how I would betray my friends and how I see them.

This is my finished assignment of lily for creative media. We had to put two personality's in one or two photos of what we thought best describes the person we were working on. I decided i was going to put two personality's into to the one photo. I put lily on a beach with a surfboard in her arm because she is from Byron Bay where there is a lot of surfing and beach scenery. my second personality was that i made her into a angel cross devil with horns and a halo. i made her wings white to signify an angle and a red dress to signify a devil. i made lily into a angel/devil because she often come across as i little quite angel but i know she in a naughty little devil.   

Mistakes

Thought out my assignment i had made quite a few mistakes. At first before i made lily into a devil/angel i was going to make her into a colorful and crazy looking person with dots, stripes, spikes and other crazy things but the colors didn't look right and didn't blend in very well so i decided to go with and angels and devil personality because it looked much better. i made other mistakes like putting a bad dress on her, changing the hole pictures saturation and other things but they were all easily fixed.

My second personality was i made lily into a angel/devil, this is because lily often come across and a quite shy little angle but i know her for he naught devil she really is and that not everyone get to see.
